After 25 years, the Traralgon T-Birds have climbed to the summit of the Gippsland Country Basketball League with a dominant 90-67 triumph over the Warragul Warriors.
Ben Barlow ignited the T-Birds from the get-go and his teammates added fuel to the fire as Traralgon surged to a commanding 27-10 quarter time advantage. Their ruthlessness didn’t stop there as they extended the margin out to 22 points by halftime where they held a 50-28 cushion.
Despite a mini-revival by the Warriors in the third period, Traralgon maintained their edge throughout the final period to eventually grasp the CBL Championships in front of a solid crowd at the Birdcage on Saturday night.
Frazar Brouns claimed MVP honours with 21 points, while Ben Barlow (26 points) and Christian D’Angelo (21 points) were the main offensive weapons for the T-Birds.
Not since 1997 has Traralgon been able to hold aloft the banner of a CBL Championship as a number of former CBL members were in the house to support the men to victory.
