The Traralgon T-Birds have claimed their third CBL title after going back-to-back with a comprehensive 105-78 victory over the Maffra Eagles.
Finals MVP, Christian D’Angelo, led all scorers with 24 points while also collecting 8 rebounds in another solid performance in a big game.
Frazar Brouns added 22 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals for the T-Birds as he was crowned a CBL champion for the third consecutive season. Brouns first captured a title with Maffra during the 2020-21 season before capturing the last two with Traralgon.
After a hot shooting streak by both teams to start the contest it was the T-Birds who were able to settle early behind the first quarter play of Brouns, who scored 12 first quarter points.
The Eagles answered the challenge and were able to draw level midway through the second period before Traralgon flexed its muscle to close out the half to score 18 of the last 24 points before halftime, punctuated by a couple of triples by Luis D’Angelo (12 points and six assists).
With the lead at double figures, the T-Birds continued to forge ahead during the second half as Kody Tibballs (15 points) added the first two baskets of the second half before Christian D’Angelo went on a tear to score eight straight points for Traralgon.
Heading into the fourth quarter the T-Birds maintained a comfortable cushion and were never going to let their back-to-back campaign fail.
Ben Barlow (16 points and 5 assists) stepped up his game in the final quarter to help Traralgon push the lead beyond 20 points as coach Reece Hamriding cleared the bench for the final three minutes.
The T-Birds shot the ball at 48% from the floor (40-83) while also clipping at 43% from beyond the arc (14-32).
